Launch's latest heavy-duty software release for the X-431 platform adds several coverage categories that point clearly at where commercial-vehicle diagnostics are heading in 2026: electric trucks, Chinese diesel platforms, and Ethernet-based diagnostics for Scania. The update spans ZF, Bosch, Weichai, Scania, FUSO, Perkins, Kamaz, and AGCO systems, and it targets the X-431 PRO3 LINK HD and X-431 PAD5 LINK HD tablets.

What the August Heavy-Duty Update Actually Covers

The release touches a long list of engine and transmission modules. On the ZF side, HD_ZF V10.78 adds the Basicpower and EcoTronic systems while optimizing TraXon1, TraXon2, and EC3-TPT coverage — the kind of transmission work that shows up daily in mixed fleets running ZF automated and manual gearboxes.

Weichai gets the biggest engine expansion. WP_DIESEL V12.90 introduces and improves a family of Weichai proprietary "WISE" engine systems — WISE10B, WISE52A, WISE15, WISE15C, WISE10A, and WISE13D/13G — and optimizes actuator tests and special functions across the board. Weichai engines power a large share of Chinese-built trucks and buses now running in export markets, so this matters well beyond China's borders.

The Bosch and Scania entries are equally notable. HD_BOSCH V16.95 adds four systems: Jiangling P2283 (MD1CS089), Foton P2252 (MD1CS089), SAIC Maxus P1816 (MD1CS089, post-2023), and Nanjing Iveco P591 (EDC17 CP). SCANIA V16.30 adds nine vehicle models and, crucially, nine DoIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol) systems — one per model — reflecting the steady migration of heavy trucks to Ethernet-based diagnostic interfaces.

FUSO brings the electric angle. Both FUSO V10.80 and HD_FUSO V18.30 add scanning for the Canter series and new model menus including the eCanter 1.1, eCanter GSR for Europe, the Shogun/SuperGreat 24M (6R and 6S), and the Canter 24MODEL. That is the clearest sign yet that Launch is treating battery-electric commercial vehicles as a first-class diagnostic target rather than an afterthought. The release also adds Perkins transmission-fill calibration and SHIBAURA N4LDI engine support under HD_AGCO.

The update is delivered through the standard X-431 software-update menu and applies to the X-431 PRO3 LINK HD and the X-431 PAD5 LINK HD. Shops running the PAD5 LINK HD — the PAD V Elite paired with the heavy-duty truck license and adapter pack — get the same coverage as the dedicated PRO3 LINK HD, which keeps the HD stack consistent across both hardware tiers. Active subscriptions download the packages directly; expired subscriptions renew through a subscription card or the in-device mall.

Why It Matters for Heavy-Duty and Fleet Technicians

The eCanter coverage is the headline item. Fleet electrification has been concentrated in light commercial vans and last-mile delivery, and the eCanter sits exactly there. For a shop that services mixed fleets, the fact that a single heavy-duty diagnostic tool can now read both a diesel Canter and its electric sibling removes a real workflow friction — no need to jump between platforms or defer EV work to a dealer.

The Weichai and Chinese-platform additions reflect a structural shift that independent shops outside China are increasingly feeling. Jiangling, Foton, SAIC Maxus, and Iveco-sourced Chinese builds are turning up in more export fleets, and technicians who once treated them as an edge case now need dependable engine and actuator coverage. Depth here is no longer a "nice to have" — it is becoming part of what makes a heavy-duty scanner worth its subscription.

Scania's DoIP entry matters for a different reason: protocol. DoIP diagnostics run over Ethernet rather than classic CAN, which changes how the tool connects, how fast large data transfers move, and how the scanner must handle session routing. Seeing DoIP show up model-by-model inside a X-431 HD tool is a signal that the heavy-duty segment is following the passenger-vehicle world toward faster, network-based diagnostics — and that shops should expect more of it.

Beyond raw coverage, the release also doubles down on live control. Weichai's actuator tests and special functions were optimized across all systems, and HD_BENZ V20.10 adds actuation tests and special functions for select systems. That is the difference between a scanner that merely reads a fault code and one that can command an injector, cycle a fan, or run a regeneration — the kind of bidirectional work that separates a professional heavy-duty tool from a basic code reader.

What to Expect Next

Expect electric-truck coverage to keep expanding. The eCanter is one nameplate, but the same category — battery-electric and increasingly hydrogen-assisted commercial vehicles — is growing across every major truck brand. Tools that add EV model menus now will be the ones fleets standardize on over the next two to three years, and the update cadence is where that advantage shows up first.

For the shop, the practical takeaway is simple: heavy-duty work is no longer a diesel-only discipline. If your diagnostic computer cannot read an electric truck or a Weichai-powered platform, you are turning away work that competitors are already booking. Keeping the software current — whether through the built-in update path or a maintained update service — is now the cheapest way to stay in front of that shift.
