Copying a smart key on a 2018-and-newer Jaguar Land Rover has long meant pulling the KVM (Keyless Vehicle Module) and doing bench work before you could add or duplicate a key. LONSDOR's new JL30-01 and JL30-11 universal smart keys change that equation: paired with the LONSDOR K518 PRO, they let you copy JLR smart keys directly on the bench — no KVM removal — on non-PEPS Jaguar and Land Rover models from 2018 onward.
For locksmiths and mobile key technicians, that removes a big chunk of labour from a job that used to eat an afternoon. Here's what the new keys do, how the workflow runs, and what you need to put it on your bench.

Why Jaguar Land Rover 2018+ Key Programming Is a Pain Point
On earlier JLR platforms, an all-keys-lost or add-a-key job was mostly a software exercise. From the 2018 generation onward, the smart key data lives behind the KVM, and many programming routines ask you to remove the module and work it on the bench. That means trim disassembly, careful connector handling, and a longer window for something to go wrong — on vehicles where a mistake is expensive to correct.
The "no KVM removal" copy path sidesteps that entirely. Instead of bench-reading the module, the K518 PRO reads the original key's data through the ADP40 adapter and writes it to a fresh LONSDOR smart key in the programmer's card slot. The vehicle never needs to be opened up for the key part of the job.

What the LONSDOR JL30-01 and JL30-11 Bring
The JL30-01 and JL30-11 are universal smart keys built specifically for Jaguar Land Rover. The two key differences from a generic aftermarket shell:
Dual-frequency switching (315/433 MHz). JLR vehicles use different remote frequencies across regions and generations. The LONSDOR keys switch between 315 MHz and 433 MHz, so a single blank covers vehicles on either frequency instead of forcing you to stock two part numbers.
Direct data copy and fast generation. The key generates through the K518 PRO in seconds, and the copy routine writes the original key's ID data straight to the new unit. The JL30-01 and JL30-11 cover both the pre-2018 and 2018+ JLR generations, which keeps one key family on the shelf for a wide range of jobs.
How to Copy a 2019 Land Rover Discovery Key
OBDexpress walked through the full job on a 2019 Land Rover Discovery. The workflow breaks into four stages.
Step 1: Generate the Smart Key
In the K518 PRO, go to Generate Smart Key >> Land Rover >> 2018- ID49 433M. Place the LONSDOR smart key flat in the card slot and tap Generate. Wait for the "Generation successful" message before moving on.
Step 2: Read Vehicle Information
Navigate to Immo & Remote >> Land Rover >> Select from vehicle >> Land Rover (2018-) >> Key copy (no KVM removal) >> Read vehicle info. The tool reports the remote frequency (434 MHz in this example) and confirms UWB function is off. Then select Add key (no KVM removal). This path supports key copying on non-PEPS Land Rover and Jaguar models from 2018 onward.
Step 3: Copy the Key
Connect the original key to the K518 PRO through the ADP40 adapter and tap OK. The tool lists two IDs — the first is the original vehicle key. Select the second ID, then choose how you want to write:
For a LONSDOR key, pick Select to use Lonsdor key, remove the ADP40 adapter, place the generated LONSDOR smart key flat on the card slot, and tap OK. For a genuine/OEM key, pick Select to use genuine/OEM key and keep the OEM key on the ADP40 adapter while the tool writes it.
Step 4: Verify the Job
Wait for the "Written successfully" message, then start the vehicle and confirm the copied key's remote and immobilizer functions work. Do this before returning the car — a copied key that unlocks but won't crank still needs a re-run.

What You Need to Run This Job
The setup is short. You need three pieces: the LONSDOR JL30-01 or JL30-11 universal smart key, the LONSDOR ADP40 adapter, and a LONSDOR K518 PRO key programmer. If your shop already runs the K518 platform, adding the JL30 keys and ADP40 adapter is an incremental buy rather than a whole new tool stack.
The same platform also handles the broader key programming workload — generation, remote programming, and immobilizer work across makes — and the key chip side of the job when you're stocking blanks for a specific model range.

Who Should Add This to the Bench
Mobile locksmiths and shops that already turn away 2018+ Jaguar Land Rover key jobs are the obvious fit. If you currently outsource JLR smart key work or quote it with a heavy labour line for KVM removal, the no-KVM-removal path can bring those jobs back in-house at a lower cost per key.
As with any immobilizer work, keep the legal side clean: confirm ownership before duplicating a key, and keep the "no KVM removal" path for its supported non-PEPS vehicles rather than forcing it onto models outside the coverage list.
