PowerBox for KT*M Flash: Multi-Function Automotive Programming Tool
This advanced automotive programming tool is engineered to provide flexible and reliable read/write capabilities for vehicle Electronic Control Units (ECUs). It supports multiple connection standards and integrates essential protection features for safe operation.

1. Compatibility & Core Functions
-
Read/Write Compatibility: Fully compatible with loading programs using:
-
BOOT-OEM12 (12-pin OBD-II protocol)
-
L-LINE (15-pin OBD-II protocol)
-
-
Application Scope:
-
ECU Coverage: When used as a KTM bench tool, it offers extensive ECU read/write functionality with no limits on car model or year. Note: Bench operation requires ECU disassembly.
-
Limitations: This tool does not cover standalone chips (e.g., immobilizers) or gearbox control units. For these components, a dedicated KTM flash tool is required. KTM OBD methods are also not optimal for gearbox programming.
-
Recommendation: Always verify specific ECU, gearbox, and chip coverage on the corresponding product list before purchase.

2. Key Safety & Protection Features
The tool incorporates built-in current-limiting resistors on critical signal lines for protection:
|
Signal Line |
Resistor Value |
|
RESET |
510Ω |
|
BOOT |
510Ω |
|
CNF1 |
220Ω |
3. Connectors & Their Purposes
Fitted with multipurpose connectors for versatile and flexible connections.
|
Connector |
Primary Function & Notes |
|
USB |
Connects to a computer. Used when the built-in USB-UART converter is enabled, for PowerBox software updates, and for reprogramming Renesas CPUs. |
|
DC |
Powers the built-in circuit and the connected ECU. ⚠️ Important: Use only quality 12V units. During password reading (off-vehicle), high initial current draw from ECU converters may trigger protection or damage poor-quality power supplies. |
|
J2534 (OBD-II-F) |
For connecting a J2534 interface to the vehicle's OBD-II port. |
|
DB-15 |
For direct connection to the main ECU connector. Recommended Cables: 14P600KT02, 14P600KT03, or analogues. |
|
IDC-26 |
For direct connection to the ECU board or via an adapter to a special head. Recommended Cable: 14P600KT06 or analogue for Tricore GPT CPUs. |
4. Control Switches & Operating Modes
Three switches enable operation in different modes.
-
POWER Switch (Controls ECU Power Supply):
-
OFF: Removes all power and control signals from IDC-26 and DB-15 connectors.
-
MANUAL: Supplies power to VECU and VKEY terminals. Control outputs depend on the selected tactics.
-
AUTO: Power is automatically controlled by the loading program via the L-Line signal (15-pin OBD-II).
-
-
BOOT Switch (Controls Boot/Reset Signals):
-
OFF: Removes all control signals (BOOT, RESET, CNF1) from the DB-15 connector.
-
MANUAL: Pulls RESET and BOOT to ground (signal minus), and CNF1 to +3.3V.
-
AUTO: Signals are automatically controlled by the loading program via the BOOT-OEM12 protocol (12-pin OBD-II).
-
-
GPT Switch (Voltage Selection for CPUs):
-
Selects operating voltage for Renesas and Tricore GPT CPUs.
-
Use 5V for SH705x series CPUs.
-
Use 3.3V for all other cases.
-
5. LED Indicators
Visual feedback is provided through several status LEDs:
-
LED near 5V/3.3V Switch: Indicates active supply voltage (5V or 3.3V).
-
VECU & VKEY LEDs: Indicate voltage presence on the respective VECU and VKEY terminals.
-
12V LED: Indicates main power voltage is present.
-
BOOT LED: Indicates voltage on the CNF1 output (functions for both input and output states).
6. Software Recommendation
-
For flashing Renesas CPUs, it is recommended to use the Flash Development Toolkit software.
