ABRITES has confirmed it is preparing what it calls a world-first key programming solution for Subaru vehicles fitted with mechanical keys. The upcoming functionality will let automotive locksmiths program keys directly through the OBD port on every Subaru model year 2020–2026 that uses a blade key, covering both All Keys Lost and spare key scenarios.
The announcement lands in the middle of Automechanika Frankfurt 2026, where ABRITES is demonstrating its latest AVDI software at Hall 9.0, Stand B48. For independent locksmiths who have spent years pulling Subaru body control modules to the bench, the shift to pure OBD programming removes the single most time-consuming step in the job.

What ABRITES' Subaru OBD Key Programming Actually Covers
Subaru remains one of the few mainstream brands where mechanical blade keys still dominate the lower trims. Unlike proximity smart keys, these mechanical keys carry a transponder chip embedded in the blade assembly — historically a 4D-60 "G-chip" or 4D-62 — that the immobilizer interrogates on crank. Programming those chips has always been the bottleneck.
According to the announcement, the new functionality will support All Keys Lost via OBD and spare key programming via OBD, using the AVDI interface with the relevant software and no module removal. Coverage spans the full Subaru lineup — Impreza, Crosstrek, Forester, Legacy, and Outback, among others — for model years 2020 through 2026 with mechanical keys.
